Canary Wharf Velux loft conversion offers flexible living

The Canary Wharf area of London is very popular with young professionals and families. As well as the iconic skyline, shopping, restaurants and bars - the area also has 32 acres of countryside at Mudchute park and city farm and, of course, it has good public access to Central London.

Rita and Massimo together with their two young daughters have lived in their modern end of terrace town house for about four years. The contemporary space offers a room on the ground floor, the kitchen and another room on the first floor and two bedrooms on the second floor. Although the layout works while the girls are small, the couple wanted to ensure that as they grew up, their daughters could have their own bedrooms and room to spread out.

"The loft space was just full of rubbish," said Rita. “With property prices in this area at a premium, it seemed silly not to utilize the space - and so for us expanding into the loft made financial sense.”

To find the right loft conversion for the them, they searched on line and read lots of reviews. They invited Econoloft to give a quote and were impressed with their knowledge and the fact they offered value for money.

"Our property is leasehold and had quite a few restrictions attached to it,” said Rita. "However, Econoloft were not fazed by that and advised us what the best options were. We had a Velux conversion to build one large room and an ensuite in the loft space.”

The loft conversion process went smoothly and the whole family are very happy with the end result.

The family particularly like the loft conversion because it offers them flexibility which means they can move their rooms around as the needs of the family change. Their daughters are still very young and so for now, the loft conversion is being used as their play room.

As they get older, Rita and Massimo hope to claim the space as their master bedroom and that move will free up the two bedrooms so that the girls can, if they wish, have their own space.

"We really like our central location and our modern house and so moving was not really an option for us,” said Rita. "The loft conversion which cost around £40K has paid for itself and added at least that to our home and so it is also an investment for the future as well as giving us the home we want now.”
