These clients in Beckenham were fortunate enough to receive frequent visits from family members. After a while, it just made sense to add a guest room to make those visits more comfortable for everyone. After a consultation with our experts, it was decided a rear dormer would give them the best value for money.​

Being a mid-terrace home meant the loft conversion was subject to party-wall agreements, but the neighbours agreed quickly, knowing that there would be very little difference to the front of the property. From the curb, the only indications that the home has been altered are a pair of Velux windows in the roof.

Inside, however, the transformation is stunning. Beneath the front Velux windows is plenty of space for a large bed, making the most of the limited headspace on that side of the room. There is enough room down this end to include some drawers for guests to unpack into.

The rear dormer provides ample space to move around, offering guests privacy and independence. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlook the garden, letting in lots of natural light and providing guests a great spot to sit an look outside. The customers chose to have the walls painted peach, a colour that complemented the rest of the house, as well as being a favourite of one of their frequent visitors.

 

The en suite bathroom includes a shower, and is accented with pale grey tiles that complement the peach on the walls. More windows help to ventilate the room, and provide plenty of light during the day.

 

This narrow, mid-terrace home did not offer a lot of space for a staircase, but by incorporating a space-saving design with two bends, the carpeted stairs provide easy access to the lower floors.
