Springtime florals for your home

Share this post to ....Share on FacebookShare on Google+Tweet about this on TwitterShare on LinkedInPin on Pinterest

It’s nearly spring – hurray! That means that we’ll soon be seeing lovely flowers blooming everywhere, the weather will get warmer, and winter will finally be over. Flowers go hand in hand with spring, which is why we’ve chosen to focus on them for today’s blog post. Let’s take a look at how you can introduce springtime florals into your home.

Pick flowers from your garden
It’s no problem if you can’t afford to keep buying fresh flowers – head out to your garden and pick some instead. Simply arrange them in old jam jars, like in this image from housetohome.co.uk, to make the perfect springtime table centrepiece. You can even coordinate your tableware to match, using shades of yellow and green.

Floral cushions
These pretty petal patterned cushions, seen on marthastewart.com, add a touch of femininity to any living room. We love the cornflower blue and olive green combination – it works really well against a neutral backdrop. The only issue we can see with these cushion is that they’re far too pretty to sit against – but we can live with that.

Floral headboard
Add some extra cheer to your bedroom with a ditsy floral printed headboard. We found this pretty bed on countryliving.com. Keep the rest of your bed linen neutral – we love the soft pastel shades in this image – they really complement the colours of the headboard. And to add some intrigue, mix and match your prints, like with the striped chair cushion and polka dot wallpaper. It makes for an eclectic, whimsical room.

Hang flowers on the wall
Of course, you can always incorporate floral designs into your wall hangings too, like in this picture we found on bhg.com. You can make this decoupage artwork yourself at home – simply print out some outlines of flowers or cut out images from magazines and arrange them onto a sheet of ivory coloured card. All you have to do then is frame your work and proudly display it for all to see.

What’s your favourite flower? How do you plan to introduce it into your home this spring?

Get creative with fabric

Share this post to ....Share on FacebookShare on Google+Tweet about this on TwitterShare on LinkedInPin on Pinterest

When people talk about home improvements, more often than not, they mean a lick of fresh paint here and there. However, you don’t have to repaint an entire room in order to freshen it up and give it a new lease of life. The more creative among you may prefer to use fabric instead. You don’t have to spend a fortune and you can fashion it into pretty much anything – perhaps a pair of curtains, some new cushion covers, or even a throw for your bed. It’s time to get creative – read on to find out what you can do in your home.

Upcycle an old shirt
It’s always nice to have new bedding, but it can get a little on the expensive side. Instead, why not upcycle an old shirt and use it as a pillowcase? We found this tartan number on goodideasforyou.com. We love that it even has a pocket to store your bedtime literature during the day.

Knit your own rug
If you’re stuck for ideas, you can always rely on Pinterest.com to come up trumps. Check out this rug – all you need to do is download the pdf template for the basket crochet pattern and get your hands on some strips of colourful fabric. This idea will definitely save you some dollar, compared to buying a rug.

Decorate your storage boxes
Storage boxes, while incredibly useful for hiding away all of your gubbins, can leave a lot to be desired. Let’s face it, they’re never the most attractive of household furnishings are they? But take a look at the image on the left, taken from womansday.com – you see, with a little bit of fabric, you can easily turn those unappealing boxes into a work of art, which you can proudly display in your home. Simply cut the fabric to size, paste a little glue on each side of the box and wrap it up in the fabric (a bit like you would a present).

Fabric art attack
It’s amazing what you can do with a few scraps of fabric – if you don’t believe us, take a look at the wall art to the left. We found this beauty on freshandfun.blogspot.co.uk. It may look tricky, but it’s really easy to recreate. Get your hands on a frame and simply wrap around strips of fabric. Use the hanging wire at the back to peg your favourite photo or colourful image, and then display your work for all to see.

Have you ever experimented with fabric in your home?

If you’re looking for more traditional ways to improve your home, you may well be considering a loft conversion. One of the most popular home improvements, loft conversions give you that much needed extra space, and can be used for absolutely anything – bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens, home cinemas, games rooms – you name it.

Having been in the industry for more than 40 years, Econoloft is ideally qualified to transform your loft into the room of your dreams.

It’s all in the details, part 2

Share this post to ....Share on FacebookShare on Google+Tweet about this on TwitterShare on LinkedInPin on Pinterest

On Monday we brought you some clever lighting ideas to add a homely touch to your interior. Following on from that, today we’ll be looking at the various accessories that you can use to furnish your home. After all, it’s all in the details. A well-chosen accessory can often make all the difference to the look and ambiance of the room. So read on to find our pick of the best home accessories to add a bit of sparkle to your interior.

Floral cushion
Fancy cushions are a great way to add some pizazz to your living room. Keep your walls neutral and focus on adding texture, pattern and colour with your accessories instead. That way, when the time comes for a room refresh, it won’t cost you a lot to simply change the cushion covers. We saw this chocolate brown cushion with pink and purple floral prints on housetohome.co.uk.

Wall clock
We found this shabby chic wall clock on livelaughlove.co.uk and instantly fell in love. Parisian cafes instantly evoke thoughts of aromatic coffee and sweet pastries – as such, this wall clock would work perfectly in your kitchen to create a homely, welcoming atmosphere.

Wall mirror
This intricately designed butterfly wall mirror comes from melodymaison.co.uk. It’s an ideal accessory for vintage-inspired bedrooms, plus, if you hang it in the right position, you’ll make your room look bigger than it actually is. We love the detailing on this mirror – it’s a real girly accessory.

Room fragrance
Everyone wants their house to smell divine, and with the help of this room fragrance from debenhams.com, you’ll get a pleasant fragrance and a pretty bottle design – the best of both worlds. Display your room fragrance proudly along with your other room knick-knacks. Just remember to take care not to spill the oil on any acrylic surfaces as it will mark them.

Coasters
Coasters may be a necessity but that doesn’t mean they have to be plain and boring. Invest in some slogan coasters and use them as a table accessory – they’ll put a smile on your guests’ faces when they come round for a cuppa. We found these wooden coasters on littlewhitedaisy.co.uk. There’s even a Time for Coffee design if you favour that over tea.

Bold wallpaper designs – our top picks

Share this post to ....Share on FacebookShare on Google+Tweet about this on TwitterShare on LinkedInPin on Pinterest

As you know, this week our focus is on patterns and prints. We’re all about introducing a pop of colour here and a pretty pattern here. Why? Because colour and prints brighten up a home and boost your mood, especially handy at this dull, grey time of year. Today we’re going to show you how you can use bold wallpaper designs in your home.

Best of British
For the truly patriotic among you, this British flag wallpaper, seen on channel4.com, is a fantastic way to make a statement. With the Olympics and the Queen’s Jubilee last year, and the royal baby fever this year, it’s safe to say that there are a lot of reasons to be proud to be British.

Animal lover
If you’re a cat lover then this cat-printed wallpaper is ideal for your home. The monochrome colour palette keeps everything looking classic and chic, while pops of colour can easily be added in the form of accessories, such as this lampshade and these vases. You’ll find plenty more designs like this one on sanderson-uk.com.

Autumn leaves
Bold wallpaper can sometimes seem a bit too overpowering, so instead of using it around the entire room, make a statement with your paper by creating a feature wall like in this room seen on houzz.com. The designer has picked out the key colours of the pattern with the choice of furniture and accessories, creating a sense of wholeness and harmony in the room.

Something for the kids
Kids love to hear a bedtime story before they go to sleep. Imagine how excited your youngsters would be to hear that their favourite bedtime story is going to feature on their bedroom wall. With adorable-home.com, you can make that happen. Take a look at this little red riding hood pattern – it’s bright, colourful and fun, making it ideal for your child’s bedroom. Keep the rest of the room neutral so as not to risk making the room seem small and cramped.

As you can see, adding bold colour to your home is easy when you know how. Which of these bold wallpapers is your favourite?

Here at Econoloft, we are experts in transforming your home and as such, we tailor all of our loft conversion designs to your specific requirements.

Go bold for autumn

Share this post to ....Share on FacebookShare on Google+Tweet about this on TwitterShare on LinkedInPin on Pinterest

At this time of year, everything seems dreary and dull. That doesn’t have to be the case inside however. This week we’re going to show you just how easy it is to brighten up your home for the new season, with ideas for introducing prints and patterns into the home.

1. Curtains
It doesn’t matter if your room is neutral; there’s still a way to introduce pattern. Rather than completely redecorate, think about using patterned accessories. They’re much cheaper and can be changed as often as you feel like it. Take these floral curtains seen on lovehome.co.uk – they complement both of the sofas and bring a feminine look to the room.

2. Bed linen
The clashing geometric patterns and tribal prints of this bed linen work well to create a bold-looking room that’s easy on the eye. The clever people at housetohome.co.uk are experts in creating a balance of harmonious colours, such as the red and blue here, adding a pop of colour to the sleek and modern grey.

3. Artwork
There are plenty of decorating ideas on roomstyler.com. Artwork is a great way to show off your personality and introduce bold colour and pattern to any room. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a Picasso fan or you prefer the serene waterlillies of Monet – there’s a style of art to suit all tastes.

How will you introduce patterns into your home?
