Add some colour to your home this spring

Share this post to ....Share on FacebookShare on Google+Tweet about this on TwitterShare on LinkedInPin on Pinterest

During the winter, everything seems dull and drab – even the clothes we wear are darker. That’s why we’re so excited that spring is nearly upon us. It’ll give us all a chance to inject some colour back into our lives. Using brighter colours in your home will boost your mood and get your home looking fabulous for spring. So let’s take a look at the colours you should be using this spring.

Pastel tones
This spring, it’s all about the candy coloured pastel shades – at least according to elledecor.com. We love the interplay of pink, green and yellow in this rug, offset by the muted sand coloured walls. The lavender sprigs and pale pink vases atop the mantelpiece complete the look, to give a soft, welcoming feel.

Rainbow hues
Check out this rainbow coloured room from houseandhome.com. Don’t you think it’s just perfect for a kids’ bedroom? Each block of colour is broken up by a solid white stripe, giving the room a bright and breezy feel. We love the bright blue curtains and sunshine yellow bed linen too – you couldn’t fail to be happy if this was your bedroom.

Shades of green
It’s no secret that green is a popular colour for spring. Not only does it signify new life, growth, and vitality, it’s also very calming. So why not recreate this multi-tonal green look from bhg.com in your home? The mint green of the wall adds a fresh vibe, while the pretty patterned lampshade and the curtains bring some warmth to the mix. And you can’t go wrong with a few springtime flowers either.

What’s your favourite springtime colour?

Put a little spring into your home today

Share this post to ....Share on FacebookShare on Google+Tweet about this on TwitterShare on LinkedInPin on Pinterest

You may not think it, judging by the horrendous weather we’ve had recently, but spring is just around the corner. Soon the grey, dreary days will be replaced by sunshine and blue skies; the leaves will start to grow back on the trees, and you’ll probably find your mood start to improve too. So how can you reflect the outdoor change in your home? Well read on, because today we’ve got some great spring home ideas to share with you.

Leaf patterned wallpaper
Bring a little bit of outside into your home with this natural-looking leaf patterned wallpaper, seen on housetohome.co.uk. Teamed with white washed furniture, this room looks clean, bright and fresh – everything you’d expect from spring really.

Grass candles
We saw these grass candles on marthastewart.com and we think they’re perfect for bringing a little calm into your home. You don’t have to choose scented candles – the design can be enough to add tranquillity to a room. However, if you’re looking for the perfect spring scent, we recommend choosing a fresh smell such as clean linen, grass, or sea breeze.

Fresh fruit and flowers
Tulips and daffodils are the perfect springtime flower to add a pop of colour and cheeriness to your home. Why not go one step further though, like in this image we found on bhg.com, and fill a vase with bright fruits, before adding in a colour clashing bunch of flowers – this will definitely brighten up even the dullest of days.

Bright paint
A splash of paint will add a pop of colour to your home at little cost. We love this bright yellow kitchen, seen on housebeautiful.com. If you are going to paint your walls in a bright shade of paint, keep the rest of the furniture neutral, like in this image. That way, the wall colour will do all of the talking.

How will you add a bit of spring to your home?

As the season changes, you may well be considering a spot of home improvement. Here at Econoloft, our 40 years’ experience in the loft conversion industry makes us the ideal choice.

We can offer you the benefit of our many years’ experience and knowledge – don’t worry though, you’ll get plenty of opportunity to put your personal stamp on it, as we tailor all of our designs to your specification.

DIY Valentine’s Gifts For The Home

Share this post to ....Share on FacebookShare on Google+Tweet about this on TwitterShare on LinkedInPin on Pinterest

It’s Valentine’s Day tomorrow – we can’t wait! Earlier this week, we brought you the best ideas for a romantic night in. Today we’re focusing on gifts. If you find it hard to think of original gifts for your loved one, or you simply fancy a change from the usual flowers and chocolate, then read on, because this post will give you plenty of inspiration. Here are our favourite DIY Valentine’s gifts for the home.

Personalised soap
Sometimes telling someone in person how you feel about them can be difficult, so why not say it with homemade soap instead? We found this great tutorial on sonyanimri.blogspot.co.uk. All you need are some letter-shaped biscuit cutters and some soap. Feel free to write any message you like, though it’s probably wiser to stick to something romantic, as it is Valentine’s Day.

Personalised photo frame
We heart this photo frame idea, from realsimple.com. You can personalise it with a message or draw on a design of your choice. Paint a frame with chalkboard paint (preferably red) and then chalk away. We love the idea of framing a black and white photo – chic, classy and elegant, this gift is a true keeper.

Memory board
If you’ve been with your Valentine for a few years already, then this memory board idea from bhg.com will make the perfect gift. Take a look through your old photos, and try to find some memorabilia that reminds you of the fun times you’ve shared – it could be concert tickets, a copy of the key to your first flat, an old love letter – anything you can find that will bring a smile to your face. Then simply choose a canvas board in a colour which will match a room in your home, and pin on your memories. Be warned: this present may make your loved one cry, it’s that sweet.

What’s the most thoughtful gift you’ve ever received on Valentine’s Day?

Here at Econoloft, we’re committed to transforming your home for the better. Our 40 years’ experience in the loft conversion industry has given us plenty of experience, but don’t worry, we won’t take over – we tailor all of our designs to suit your specifications.

Take a look at our gallery for design inspiration, while our impressive client testimonials prove just why we’re the best firm for the job.

Treat your loved one to a night in this Valentine’s Day

Share this post to ....Share on FacebookShare on Google+Tweet about this on TwitterShare on LinkedInPin on Pinterest

It’s Valentine’s Day on Friday – have you got anything special planned yet? Well if you haven’t, then we’ve got just the ticket. This year, rather than going out and spending a fortune (not that your loved one isn’t worth it of course – some couples have to live to a budget though), why not treat your loved one to a night in. That might not sound like your idea of romance, but you’d be surprised at just how special you can make the day, with a bit of décor here, and some candles there. Read on for some fabulous ideas for a stay-at-home Valentine’s Day this Friday.

Jar of hearts
Don’t panic, we’re not about to serenade you. We found this pretty Valentine’s Day décor idea on digsdigs.com. This person seems to have thought of everything – there’s the iconic red and pink colour theme, heart garlands and a heart shaped wreath, red candles and matching flowers, and our personal favourite – jars of heart shaped sweets. How could your loved one fail to smile at this?

Fill a vase with flowers
There’s nothing technically wrong with a dozen red roses – after all, they’re the most bought flowers on Valentine’s Day. But how about this year, you buy something a little better-thought out? We absolutely love these parrot tulips, seen on housebeautiful.com. They are the ideal flowers to arrange in a pitcher-style vase. You don’t have to choose white – some of the most beautiful flowers we’ve received have been red tulips. So try something different with your flowers this year – you can guarantee she’ll notice (for all the right reasons).

Scatter some petals
If you’ve overdone the bunch of flowers gift, here’s a great alternative. We saw this romantic love heart idea on marthastewart.com. We love how it still incorporates flowers but in a thoughtful way. You should arrange the petals somewhere prominent, where your loved one will spot them as soon as they walk into the room – watch their face light up.

Set a romantic table
The final step to your romantic night in is to lay the table before your other half arrives home. We love this pretty vintage style table decoration, seen on Pinterest.com. Choose soft pink coloured china in a whimsical pattern, and place paper love heart shaped napkins on top. Decorate the table with coordinating flowers, and scatter some confetti around. Finally, if you want to continue the pink theme further, choose only pink food and pink coloured drinks. It’s as simple as that.

How are you planning to make Valentine’s Day extra special this year?

Here at Econoloft, we love to bring you inspirational ideas and tips for decorating your home. Having been in the loft conversion industry for more than 40 years, we like to think we’re experienced enough to give you the best advice when it comes to home improvements.

Take a look at our gallery for more design inspiration, and check out our impressive client testimonials, which detail exactly why we’re the best firm for the job.

Fabulous fabric projects for your home

Share this post to ....Share on FacebookShare on Google+Tweet about this on TwitterShare on LinkedInPin on Pinterest

Earlier this week, we brought you some ideas for how you can use fabric to enhance and freshen up your home. Today, we’re taking that one step further. We know that you all love to get a little creative every now and again, so we’ve found some of the best (and easiest) fabric DIY projects which you can recreate when redecorating your home. Enjoy!

Chair covers
We found this fabulous chair cover on yourhomeonlybetter.com. Not only does it look great (not to mention original), it’s also super easy to make yourself. So forget all about buying expensive chairs and simply change the covers on your existing ones. You can use adhesive glue to stick the fabric to the chair – just make sure you measure out the fabric properly first. We really love the design of this fabric – it would work great for creating a monochrome look in your home.

Bay window blind
If you’ve got a bay window, it can be tricky to fit curtains. You can solve this problem by fitting a Roman blind. Choose some fabric in a pattern which complements the room like in this picture from housetohome.co.uk. We love how the green adds a pop of colour to the neutral room, making it look clean and fresh.

Soft quilt headboard
Are you fed up of banging your head on your solid headboard each morning? Well, we’ve got a great solution – hang a fabric quilt headboard instead. We found this simple idea on marthastewart.com. All you have to do is get your hands on a drapery rod and some brackets in the same shade as your wall. Install them at your preferred height and simply drape the quilt over the rod, straightening both sides out so they hang evenly. You could use your quilt to add colour to the room, or keep it neutral – it’s up to you.

Cabinet door panels
If you’re bored of your cabinets and fancy a change, why not simply replace the existing doors with some pretty patterned fabric? Stretch the fabric of your choice around a wooden frame and use a staple gun to hold it in place. If you want an easy clean version, sandwich the fabric between a wooden frame and a glass panel – that way you can simply wipe any dust off the glass. We’ve got bhg.com to thank for this great fabric idea.

Have you used fabric creatively in your home?

If you’re in need of more space in your home, you may be considering a loft conversion. At Econoloft, we’ve had over 40 years’ experience in the loft conversion industry, making us ideally qualified to complete the job for you.

Get creative with fabric

Share this post to ....Share on FacebookShare on Google+Tweet about this on TwitterShare on LinkedInPin on Pinterest

When people talk about home improvements, more often than not, they mean a lick of fresh paint here and there. However, you don’t have to repaint an entire room in order to freshen it up and give it a new lease of life. The more creative among you may prefer to use fabric instead. You don’t have to spend a fortune and you can fashion it into pretty much anything – perhaps a pair of curtains, some new cushion covers, or even a throw for your bed. It’s time to get creative – read on to find out what you can do in your home.

Upcycle an old shirt
It’s always nice to have new bedding, but it can get a little on the expensive side. Instead, why not upcycle an old shirt and use it as a pillowcase? We found this tartan number on goodideasforyou.com. We love that it even has a pocket to store your bedtime literature during the day.

Knit your own rug
If you’re stuck for ideas, you can always rely on Pinterest.com to come up trumps. Check out this rug – all you need to do is download the pdf template for the basket crochet pattern and get your hands on some strips of colourful fabric. This idea will definitely save you some dollar, compared to buying a rug.

Decorate your storage boxes
Storage boxes, while incredibly useful for hiding away all of your gubbins, can leave a lot to be desired. Let’s face it, they’re never the most attractive of household furnishings are they? But take a look at the image on the left, taken from womansday.com – you see, with a little bit of fabric, you can easily turn those unappealing boxes into a work of art, which you can proudly display in your home. Simply cut the fabric to size, paste a little glue on each side of the box and wrap it up in the fabric (a bit like you would a present).

Fabric art attack
It’s amazing what you can do with a few scraps of fabric – if you don’t believe us, take a look at the wall art to the left. We found this beauty on freshandfun.blogspot.co.uk. It may look tricky, but it’s really easy to recreate. Get your hands on a frame and simply wrap around strips of fabric. Use the hanging wire at the back to peg your favourite photo or colourful image, and then display your work for all to see.

Have you ever experimented with fabric in your home?

If you’re looking for more traditional ways to improve your home, you may well be considering a loft conversion. One of the most popular home improvements, loft conversions give you that much needed extra space, and can be used for absolutely anything – bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens, home cinemas, games rooms – you name it.

Having been in the industry for more than 40 years, Econoloft is ideally qualified to transform your loft into the room of your dreams.

Unusual Celebrity Homes

Share this post to ....Share on FacebookShare on Google+Tweet about this on TwitterShare on LinkedInPin on Pinterest

So earlier this week, we took a look at some of the fanciest homes of the rich and famous. These are the homes of the people who’ve made it big in life. With a seemingly endless supply of money, there’s limitless opportunity available when it comes to building or buying a new home or two. Today however, we’re going to be looking at some of the more unusual celebrity homes out there. Let’s take a sneaky peek through the door.

Christina Aguilera – baby’s room
We found this pic on hometone.com – not exactly the decor you’d imagine for a baby’s room is it? That grumpy faced crescent moon would definitely give us nightmares, and we wouldn’t fancy waking up to the strangely happy love cloud (if that’s what it is) on the wall. Nevertheless, you’ve got to admit, that Christina’s baby probably has the most unique child’s bedroom ever.

John Travolta’s house
It’s not all that unusual for major celebs to have access to their own plane. What you tend not to expect however, is that they will design their house to look (and act) like a runway. Well, that’s exactly what John Travolta did, according to hubpages.com. You’d definitely hear him before you saw him.

Pharrell Williams – exhibition home
Not that we’re the sort to jump to conclusions, but this is the last thing we’d expect from Pharrell Williams. His Miami penthouse is adorned with museum-like exhibits, such as this huge canvas of Brian from TV show Family Guy, and the interestingly crafted chair, seen in these pictures from flavorwire.com.

Have you got any more examples of unusual-looking celebrity homes? We’d love to hear about them.

Here at Econoloft, it’s our aim to transform your property into the home of your dreams. If you’re in need of a little extra space, you may wish to consider having a loft conversion. With over 40 years’ experience in the industry, we’re ideally qualified to complete the work for you.

Celebrity Home Lust

Share this post to ....Share on FacebookShare on Google+Tweet about this on TwitterShare on LinkedInPin on Pinterest

If you haven’t already guessed, we love homes. Even more than our love of homes, is having a nosy inside some of the most spectacular homes out there. We’re talking of course about celebrity homes. We know that money isn’t everything in this world, but having plenty of it certainly does seem to guarantee you a stunning abode – just take a look at the following homes we’ve picked out if you don’t believe us. Here is our list of the celebrity homes we’re lusting after right now – get ready for some serious home envy.

Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady
This palatial-sized pad set the celebrity couple back $20 million, according to glamourmagazine.co.uk. The incredible thing about it is that 90 percent of the materials inside the house are recycled. They also chose to install solar panels on the roof and to make the whole thing even more eco-friendly, there’s also a chicken coup so the celebs will never be short of a constant supply of free range eggs. And we’re betting that the stars won’t be short of a house guest or two, especially as there are eight bedrooms. The garage is big enough to hold six cars, there’s a beautiful swimming pool and spa, and there’s even a wine cellar. Should the two ever need alone time, they can have a wing each. And of course, they’ve even dedicated a room to their butler – how kind.

Harry Styles

It must be tough being part of one of the world’s most famous boy bands. Harry Styles is never short of a pretty lady on his arm, not to mention his adoring fans. Oh, and did we say that One Direction are reportedly worth a whopping $100 million? It’s no wonder therefore, that Harry has decided to spread his wings and shell out some of his hard-earned cash on a London mansion. Costing the singer $4.8 million, the mansion boasts four bedrooms (almost enough for a band sleepover), 3.5 bathrooms and a four car garage. Bedecked with the latest mod cons inside and out, there’s also a huge space that would be just perfect for throwing outdoor parties – hint hint Harry. Special thanks go to celebrityhousepictures.com for letting us in on this juicy gossip.

Celine Dion
If you’ve got some (serious) spare cash burning a hole in your pocket, you may wish to take a look at the celebrity housing market. According to abcnews.go.com, Celine Dion’s home on Jupiter Island, Florida is up for sale, costing the lucky buyer a cool $72.5 million. Imagine waking up to those crystal clear blue waters every morning, and that sunshine – jealous, us?

One thing that links each of these homes together is their palatial size. However, if you’re in need of a little extra space in your home, there is an easier (and cheaper) way to get it than investing in one of the celeb pads above.

A loft conversion comes top of the list in home improvements, guaranteeing you the best rate of return. Econoloft has been in the industry for over 40 years now, making us something of an expert.

Deck the halls with boughs of holly

Share this post to ....Share on FacebookShare on Google+Tweet about this on TwitterShare on LinkedInPin on Pinterest

We’re continuing with the Christmas theme again today – less than two weeks now! Perhaps the title of this post has given you a clue? Yes today we’ll be focusing on festive decorations and easy ways for you to turn your home into a Santa’s grotto lookalike. Let’s take a look.

Chalk up your baubles

This idea from rd.com is a great way to personalise your decorations. Simply paint a layer of chalkboard paint over your plastic bulbs. Once dry, pick up a stick of chalk and write your festive greetings. You may even decide to write the name of each member of your family and use them as place settings.

Make a card display

An easy way to display your Christmas cards is to hang them. Attach some glittery tinsel to either end of a mirror and use small pegs to hang your cards – not only does this save precious shelving space in your home, it also doubles up as a festive display. We saw this one on marthastewart.com.

Colour creative

Head to johnlewis.com to get your hands on this colour your own Christmas bunting. This will be fun for the kids and will keep them entertained while you wrap Christmas presents. By allowing them to get involved in the festive preparations, your home will feel all the more Christmassy.

Homemade stocking

Christmas stockings make the perfect accompaniment to gifts. Rather than buying one this year however, why not make your own? There’s a template and instructions for this snowman stocking on lovehome.co.uk. And if you’re feeling extra creative, why not come up with your own festive design.

How do you plan to decorate your home this Christmas?

If you’re in need of more space in your home but don’t want the hassle of moving, why not consider a loft conversion. Econoloft has been in the industry for more than 40 years and our experience is unrivalled.

Take a look at our gallery of previous work for further design inspiration and have a read of our client testimonials – they detail why we’re the right firm to complete the job for you.

5 of the best kitchen-diners

Share this post to ....Share on FacebookShare on Google+Tweet about this on TwitterShare on LinkedInPin on Pinterest

Regular readers of our blog will have heard us say countless times that the kitchen is the hub of any home – but can the same be said about kitchen-diners? These rooms are not a new phenomenon. Indeed, they can actually be a really useful addition to any household, particularly if you often have guests over. The open kitchen – dining room aspect allows for great hosting. You’ll effectively be in the same room as your guests during the cooking process. You may even want to demonstrate a few skills. Today we’ll be taking a look at five of the best kitchen-diners.

Vintage kitchen bar
How about this for a cool kitchen? Part kitchen, part 1940s inspired bar, we’re willing to bet that the owner of this home enjoys hosting. To give the room an authentic touch, the designer has chosen to use vintage accessories, such as these old-school bar stools. This kitchen bar from easyliving.co.uk is ideal for showcasing your cocktail making skills while your guests relax.

White and red
An all-white kitchen-diner can look quite clinical and sterile. However, once you’ve added some dark chunky furniture and colourful red accents, the room is transformed. We love the homely look of this kitchen-diner from roomenvy.co.uk. It gives the impression that a lively, welcoming family live here – what more could you want?

50s style
We couldn’t resist this 1950s style American kitchen-diner, seen on Pinterest.com. The monochrome tiled flooring and the shiny PVC-backed chairs look like they’ve come straight out of a 50s movie. Carry on the theme into the rest of the kitchen with retro accessories and bright colours – who said decorating can’t be fun?

Small kitchen-diner
If your kitchen-diner errs on the small side, do not panic. The clever people at beautifulkitchensblog.co.uk recommend investing in foldaway chairs and an extendable table. We love the traditional country style of this kitchen-diner. The balance of cream and honey coloured wood adds warmth, while the colourful checked blind adds a splash of colour.

Curved kitchen-diner
This striking curved design seen on housetohome.co.uk stands out as the centrepiece of the room. Almost reminiscent of a theatre circle, it’s ideal for putting on a culinary show for your guests. The high backed leather chairs will allow your guests and family to dine in comfort, while the burgundy table and lampshade add a splash of colour to the room. Ceiling spotlights give the room a professional finish.

Have you ever considered turning your unused loft into a kitchen-diner? Set away from the rest of the house, this would be the ideal place to entertain guests.

Here at Econoloft, we have over 40 years’ experience in the loft conversion industry. This makes us ideally qualified to complete the job for you.

We tailor all of our designs to suit your specifications. If you are looking for more design inspiration, take a look at our gallery of previous work.
