Unusual buildings you wouldn’t expect to be homes

Share this post to ....Share on FacebookShare on Google+Tweet about this on TwitterShare on LinkedInPin on Pinterest

This week, we’ll be focusing on some truly special homes. Everyone considers their home to be the best – with all of the time and effort you put into it, why wouldn’t you? But not everyone has the privilege of calling a windmill their home. Believe it or not, you can convert pretty much any building into a home, with a little imagination and some help from the experts. So let’s take a closer look at some unusual buildings you wouldn’t expect to be made into homes – you may be surprised.

Water pumping station

Found in west Yorkshire, this former water pumping station is now a stunning contemporary home, complete with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and two reception rooms. While the interior has been totally modernised and refreshed, the building’s exterior is a true reflection that this was not always a home. And as homedit.com rightly points out, the countryside views are amazing.

Windmill

This Grade II – listed converted windmill can be found in Brighton. It was built back in 1885 and served as a lookout post during WWII. During the conversion process, the ladders were replaced by spiral staircases, with the ground floor featuring a bespoke kitchen, and the upper floors housing four bedrooms. And according to homesandproperty.co.uk, it could be yours for a cool £1 million.

Brewery

The Abbey Brewery in Wiltshire has been a four bedroomed home since its conversion in the 1980s. It hasn’t lost some of the more recognisable period features however, such as the exposed beams and vaulted ceilings. And what a cool place to call your home! We’re definitely jealous of the current owners. This brewery turned home features on a list of unusual buildings up for sale by the telegraph.co.uk. You can own this home for £565,000.

Celebrity Home Lust

Share this post to ....Share on FacebookShare on Google+Tweet about this on TwitterShare on LinkedInPin on Pinterest

If you haven’t already guessed, we love homes. Even more than our love of homes, is having a nosy inside some of the most spectacular homes out there. We’re talking of course about celebrity homes. We know that money isn’t everything in this world, but having plenty of it certainly does seem to guarantee you a stunning abode – just take a look at the following homes we’ve picked out if you don’t believe us. Here is our list of the celebrity homes we’re lusting after right now – get ready for some serious home envy.

Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady
This palatial-sized pad set the celebrity couple back $20 million, according to glamourmagazine.co.uk. The incredible thing about it is that 90 percent of the materials inside the house are recycled. They also chose to install solar panels on the roof and to make the whole thing even more eco-friendly, there’s also a chicken coup so the celebs will never be short of a constant supply of free range eggs. And we’re betting that the stars won’t be short of a house guest or two, especially as there are eight bedrooms. The garage is big enough to hold six cars, there’s a beautiful swimming pool and spa, and there’s even a wine cellar. Should the two ever need alone time, they can have a wing each. And of course, they’ve even dedicated a room to their butler – how kind.

Harry Styles

It must be tough being part of one of the world’s most famous boy bands. Harry Styles is never short of a pretty lady on his arm, not to mention his adoring fans. Oh, and did we say that One Direction are reportedly worth a whopping $100 million? It’s no wonder therefore, that Harry has decided to spread his wings and shell out some of his hard-earned cash on a London mansion. Costing the singer $4.8 million, the mansion boasts four bedrooms (almost enough for a band sleepover), 3.5 bathrooms and a four car garage. Bedecked with the latest mod cons inside and out, there’s also a huge space that would be just perfect for throwing outdoor parties – hint hint Harry. Special thanks go to celebrityhousepictures.com for letting us in on this juicy gossip.

Celine Dion
If you’ve got some (serious) spare cash burning a hole in your pocket, you may wish to take a look at the celebrity housing market. According to abcnews.go.com, Celine Dion’s home on Jupiter Island, Florida is up for sale, costing the lucky buyer a cool $72.5 million. Imagine waking up to those crystal clear blue waters every morning, and that sunshine – jealous, us?

One thing that links each of these homes together is their palatial size. However, if you’re in need of a little extra space in your home, there is an easier (and cheaper) way to get it than investing in one of the celeb pads above.

A loft conversion comes top of the list in home improvements, guaranteeing you the best rate of return. Econoloft has been in the industry for over 40 years now, making us something of an expert.

Three of the best children’s bedroom design ideas

Share this post to ....Share on FacebookShare on Google+Tweet about this on TwitterShare on LinkedInPin on Pinterest

When it comes to decorating your kids’ bedroom, there are loads of different styles and designs to choose from. However, what you need to bear in mind is how long they’ll like a particular design for.

Try to avoid adorning the walls of your youngsters’ room with the latest cartoon characters, as they might not be so popular with your child a couple of months down the line.

If you’re stuck for inspiration, check out our three favourite children’s bedroom design ideas below.

1. Introduce colour with accessories

If your budget’s low, keep walls painted white and introduce colour with a bright rug and brightly pattered bed linen.

Decorate plain walls with your child’s artwork – it makes the room look bright and cheerful and is easy enough to update on a regular basis. Back each drawing onto coloured card first to create a professional and smart looking border.

2. Double trouble

If you have twins or your kids share a bedroom, it can be tricky to mutually agree on a theme.

Boys will love this nautical inspired bedroom from housetohome.co.uk. Porthole stickers on the sloping wall give the impression of being underwater whilst boat shaped shelves add to the theme further. Matching patchwork quilts pick out the red, white and blue colour scheme.

3. Creative wall designs
Kids love being creative so why not let their imagination run wild in their bedroom.

Check out this chalkboard wall seen on Pinterest.com. Your kids will love being allowed to draw all over the wall and because it’s chalk, each design can easily be removed.

Give your kids a bedroom they’ll love today. If you’re worried that your home is getting too small as your youngsters continue to grow, you don’t have to move house just yet.

Converting your loft in to a bedroom for your children not only gives you that much needed extra space; it also adds significant value to your property.

Econoloft can make your house into the perfect home with a loft conversion.

If money was no object and you could have the house of your dreams, what would it look like?

We’ve scoured interior design websites to find our own favourite home design inspiration.

Take a look and let us know what you think!1. Country Kitchen with Wooden Beams

High wooden beams and whitewashed walls make the perfect country kitchen in our eyes!

We love the homely feel of this kitchen from housetohome.co.uk. Bright textiles inject colour and the large patio doors create an inviting look. A large wooden table is perfect for entertaining friends and family. This kitchen is a budding chef’s dream.

2. White Luxurious Bathroom

Bathrooms don’t have to be boring. Enjoy a relaxing soak in a sumptuous setting, with draped curtains and a fluffy rug.

We love the style of this bathroom – in fact, it’s more like a pamper room thanks to the vanity mirror and dressing table. The curtains add a touch of glamour, making it a bathroom fit for a princess.

3. Cosy Reading Corner

Perfect for those rainy days when you just want to escape to a new world and curl up with a good book.

This little nook is set up to be a personal mini-library, complete with a comfy padded seating area. It’s the ideal place to escape to, shut off from modern technology to forget the stresses of everyday life.
