Make your home cosy this autumn

There’s now a distinct chill in the air, which pretty much confirms that autumn is here. One of the great things about autumn is that you have a good excuse to put the fire on and snuggle down under a blanket to keep warm. If you’re as excited as we are about doing just that, read on. Today we’re looking at ways to make your home extra cosy for autumn.

Wood tones
Wood brings a lovely, natural feel to your home, which is just ideal for autumn. The rich brown tones will add a sense of comfort to any room, and will make you feel as though you’re in a cosy log cabin. The experts at bhg.com recommend adding a few extra home comforts such as this padded silk quilt.

Blankets and hot water bottles

Online retailer notonthehighstreet.com has a fantastic array of products to help you stay warm and cosy this autumn. We love these checked pattern blankets – imagine snuggling down under them with your hot water bottle on a cold autumn night. Make your water bottle even cosier by encasing it in a knitted cover.

Candles
Nothing will help warm a room better than lighting some scented candles. Choose a warm cinnamon scent and enjoy basking in the soft glow as you relax in the evening. The team at goodhousekeeping.co.uk have chosen some of the best scented candles to help you get into the autumn spirit this season.

Spooky home décor ideas for Halloween

Share this post to ....Share on FacebookShare on Google+Tweet about this on TwitterShare on LinkedInPin on Pinterest

Autumn isn’t all doom and gloom. In just a few short weeks, Halloween will be here. It doesn’t matter whether you’ve got children or not – Halloween is a festive holiday for everyone to get involved with.

You may be considering throwing a party to celebrate the occasion. Here are some ideas to help you decorate your home in suitable spooky fashion.

Outdoor party
This Halloween, countryliving.com recommends using the autumnal colours to your advantage when hosting an outdoor Halloween party. It gives you an excuse to not have to sweep up the leaves for a few weeks. Get your hands on pumpkins in various sizes and carve them to make spooky faces. If you have an old table lying around, even better – use this to lay out the potions (drinks) for your guests.

Kids’ party
Your kids will love dressing up as Halloween monsters. Rather than heading out to trick or treat, host a party for your kids and invite all of their friends. Play games of apple bobbing and create delicious spooky dishes for them to eat. You don’t have to go to a lot of expense either – for the decorations, simply get your hands on some orange balloons and, using a black marker pen, draw on the scary faces, like in this picture from marthastewart.com. Keep to a theme of black and orange for both décor and food and you won’t go wrong.

Sophisticated soiree
We mentioned earlier that Halloween is not just for kids. If you fancy hosting a sophisticated evening for your adult friends, stick to a monochrome theme. We love these quirky ‘Boo’ candles seen in this image from Houzz.com. You can easily and quickly transform your room to make it fit for a Halloween get together. Take those glass jars for example – you can wash and re-use cooking sauce jars to hold tea light candles. Use black ribbon around the top and cut out a bat shape from black card to stick to the side of the jar – simple but effective.

Hosting a party in your loft or basement will create the perfect spooky setting. If you’re considering converting your loft, the easiest way to do it is to rely on the experts.

Autumnal colours for the home

Share this post to ....Share on FacebookShare on Google+Tweet about this on TwitterShare on LinkedInPin on Pinterest

It’s that time of year again when the leaves on the trees start to turn a lovely combination of yellow, orange and red. Autumn, or fall as it’s aptly named in the States, is now upon us.

Days are getting shorter and there’s a distinct chill to the air. Before you start to mourn the loss of summer however, just think – now’s your chance to transform your home and get it ready for the new season. One very noteworthy aspect of the changing season is colour. So today, we’ll be taking a look at the various autumnal colours and how you can introduce them into your home.

Green and yellow

For autumn, think natural colours and you won’t go far wrong. Different shades of olive green form a natural base while brighter yellow and tangerine orange accents like in this dining room seen on achica.com add the finishing touches.

Red
On its own, red can be rather bold and bright, definitely more a shade for the brave. However, red accents in a neutral white room can turn an average room into a spectacular one. We love this red and white autumnal room seen on Houzz.com. The bed side table and matching cushions really help to offset the otherwise neutral room.

Gold
Fancy something a little more opulent? This gold bed linen seen on housetohome.co.uk will give your bedroom an added touch of autumnal luxury. Offset the rich tones with black to bring out the shine even further.

Heather
Autumn isn’t just browns and yellows however – it’s also the time of year when the heather on the moorlands thrives. Combine varying shades of lilac, heather and purple to create a cosy, warm feel. We think this living room, seen on country-days.co.uk looks like the perfect place for a cuppa.

So there you have it – plenty of colour inspiration to turn your home into an autumnal haven.

If you fancy a bit of extra space in your home this autumn, why not consider converting your loft? Here at Econoloft, our 40 years’ experience makes us the authority on loft conversions.
